If you are suffering from type 2 diabetes and you are committed to reversing your condition and living free from disease, the general guidelines for healthy habits may not be enough! Nutrition, exercise, and stress management are all critical for optimal health and reversing type 2 diabetes; however, for those who are facing type 2 diabetes, these basics may turn around the damage done by years of inflammation and dysregulated blood sugar! By focusing on the four ways to take your health to the next level that I have outlined below, you will boost your body’s ability to heal and live disease-free!
Hydration helps your body efficiently deliver nutrients to your cells and excrete toxins and waste!
Most fluids do not contribute to hydration. Some beverages do not count towards your daily hydration since the additives in those beverages change how your body processes the liquid and have the potential to dehydrate you!
These beverages include
- Energy drinks
I recommend drinking half of your body weight in ounces of purified, clean water per day! (150lb. person=75 oz. H2O)
The prevalence of environmental pollutants, heavy metals, pesticides, and household chemicals (xenobiotics) that are deemed “endocrine disruptors” is a well-supported factor behind the explosion of diabetes and other chronic diseases within in our population. Skilled functional medicine providers like me use advanced testing and therapy to identify toxins, remove them, and repair the tissues they have damaged.
If you have diabetes and are dealing with weight control issues, it is even more imperative to maintain the health of your muscles, joints, and connective tissues.
Excess weight puts added stress on your joints, and inactivity can cause your muscles to deteriorate over time, making it harder to be active and stay healthy. Investing in bodywork such as massage therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, and acupuncture during this period may help you recover physically!
4. Support System
Last but certainly not least, having a support system is beneficial for health and healing!
Regardless of your health status, you should work to surround yourself with health care providers, friends, and family that advocate for your best interests.
This is especially important when you are trying to overcome something as serious and difficult as type 2 diabetes.
